Work Readiness

Life & Work Readiness

Real-world skills for work, life, and everything in between.

Work Readiness at Progression for Life is about more than resumes and interview tips. We focus on confidence, communication, executive functioning, and daily life skills so people can show up at work—and in life—prepared.

Whether someone is entering the workforce for the first time, returning after a break, or navigating disability-related changes, we meet them where they are and move at a pace that’s actually sustainable.

  • Coaching that blends real-life expectations with compassionate support.
  • Small, practical steps instead of overwhelming “fix everything at once” plans.
  • Skills that transfer across jobs, home, and community life.

What Work Readiness Can Include

Services are tailored to each person. Some people need a short tune-up before job development, others need time and space to rebuild skills and trust in the process.

Daily living & stability

Life Skills Coaching

Support with routines, organization, transportation planning, appointments, and the life pieces that make work possible (and sustainable) in the first place.

Focus: stability, follow-through, realistic planning.

Workplace readiness

Work Skills & Expectations

On-the-ground preparation for showing up to work: communication, boundaries, time management, understanding supervisors, and what “being a good employee” actually looks like.

Focus: soft skills, expectations, problem-solving.

Next steps & transitions

Preparing for Job Development

When someone is ready, we connect Work Readiness to Supported or Customized Employment. That might mean resumes, job searching, or exploring what a good-fit job really is.

Focus: next steps toward a job that fits.

Who Work Readiness is a good fit for

This program is often helpful when:
  • Work has felt overwhelming, confusing, or discouraging.
  • There have been past job losses and you want to do it differently this time.
  • Executive functioning, anxiety, or trauma make “just get a job” unrealistic.
  • Life changes (health, disability, caregiving, housing) impact work stability.
How we work with people:
  • We set expectations that are honest, clear, and human.
  • We collaborate with the existing team (VR, DSPD, mental health, family) when appropriate.
  • We respect autonomy: people are the experts in their own lives.
  • We move at a pace that builds momentum, not shame.
